A popular design trend right now is to use old wood windows inside and outside the home as décor items. This is a great example of a “green” design—taking items that would have otherwise ended up in a landfill, and repurposing items in an attractive way. Many of the San Diego homeowners we work with are replacing their old, inefficient windows with new, energy-efficient vinyl replacement windows for environmental reasons, so we thought we would share with you some of the innovative ways we’ve seen people utilize old wood windows in their homes. Maybe it will inspire you to use the windows you replace in a creative way. When your windows are part of your home, you want them to be well-maintained and in good condition, but when it comes to old wood windows used for décor projects in your …

BM Windows and the Coronado Bridge: Beautifying San Diego
If you’re a San Diego resident, you are likely familiar with the Coronado Bridge. It is a local landmark that links San Diego to Coronado over the San Diego Bay. Spanning more than two miles, the beautiful bridge is often used as a symbol to represent the City of San Diego. Now, the almost 50-year-old bridge will be getting an upgrade. A sizable donation made by BAE Systems San Diego Ship Repair will allow plans to move forward to add decorative, energy-efficient LED lighting to the bridge. The project has been on hold for the last several years due to a lack of funding. San Diego’s Vanessa Herrera recently reported on this story on NBC 7, which you can read and watch here. A San Diego native herself, Vanessa always offers interesting and enthusiastic commentary on things happening …
The BM Windows Experience: Glowing Letter From a Patio Door Customer
With summer in full swing, we are getting a lot of calls about installing patio doors in San Diego homes. Our crews have been all over San Diego County, upgrading homes with sliding patio doors, French doors, and sliding French doors. Earlier in the summer, we installed French patio doors in the home of Leslie S., and at the completion of her project, we received the following testimonial letter, which recounts in great detail her experience with BM Windows. Leslie writes: Having had multiple contractors work at our home in recent years, we are well aware that they won’t all treat our residence with respect. Even when the end result is great, the process can still be such a drag. We found ourselves dealing with pushy sales people, installation schedules that were constantly changing, …
Replacing an Existing Window With Patio Doors in San Diego Homes
A frequent request from BM Windows customers during in-home consultations is to replace an existing window with a sliding patio door or French doors. Understandably, many of our customers want to take advantage of the beautiful San Diego weather, but older San Diego homes were not always designed with today’s indoor-outdoor living preferences in mind. It is ideal if your home has a large window where you want to add a replacement patio door. Working with a licensed contractor, the installation team can do what we call a “cut down,” which is basically removing the existing window and cutting straight down to remove the wall below without widening the opening at all. Doing this allows us to use the existing framing without having to do a large amount of construction work before installing …
La Mesa Homeowner Excited About Her Replacement Windows for Multiple Reasons
Amy R., one of our customers from La Mesa, recently left us a five star review on Yelp, explaining why she is so glad she went with BM Windows for her replacement windows. She started her review by saying, “Right now, it is 100 degrees outside—if we still had our old windows, it would be 100 degrees inside, too.” She went on to say that because of her new, high quality windows installed by BM Windows, she is not sweating inside her home, even though temperatures are soaring outside. High quality, energy-efficient windows can make a huge difference for the temperature inside your home, as Amy can attest. Our vinyl replacement windows conduct less heat than older aluminum windows like the ones we replaced in Amy’s home. They also have better insulating properties, and they keep out the …
