On January 1, 2013 Congress passed the “American Taxpayer Relief Act” which includes federal tax credits for energy efficient consumer products. In total, the tax credit applies to 6 categories of products, one of which is energy efficient windows and doors. The Energy Star tax credit is for 10% of the cost, up to $500 for windows and doors. However, the credit includes a cap of $200 for windows alone. San Diego homeowners can easily take advantage of the federal tax credit as it applies to replacement windows, replacement doors, vinyl replacement windows and new construction windows.
