Description of Double Hung Windows

Double hung windows have two panels (or sashes). Both the upper and lower panel slide vertically within a common frame. The bottom sash slides up to open while the top sash slides down to open. Unlike single hung windows, which look very similar, double hung windows do not have a fixed panel. Double hung windows are vertically oriented, meaning they are taller than they are wide. They are sometimes called “vertical sliding windows.”

One of the best features of a double hung window is its tilt-in sash. As the name implies, the individual sashes can be tilted into a room, allowing you to clean the outside glass from the inside of your home.
