If Dual Pane Windows Are Good for San Diego Homes, Are Triple Pane Windows Better?
This is an interesting question that we get every once in a while from potential customers who are looking to make their homes as energy efficient as possible: Are triple pane windows better than dual pane windows? These people have done their research and have seen that some replacement window manufacturers make windows with three panes of glass—triple pane windows, while the majority of the replacement windows on the market are dual pane windows.
Here's what you need to know about triple pane windows: all other things being equal (the window frames, the spacer in between the panes of glass, the type of gas inserted between the panes, etc.), triple pane windows will be slightly more energy efficient than dual pane windows. The key word here is “slightly,” however. That extra pane of glass is only going to make a very small difference in the overall energy efficiency of your home.
Here's what turns a lot of people off from purchasing triple pane windows: that small difference in energy efficiency typically comes with a fairly significant cost increase.
At BM Windows, our focus has always been on providing our San Diego customers with high-quality, energy-efficient replacement windows at affordable prices. We only sell products and brands that we can confidently recommend and that we would install in our own homes. It would be hard for us to recommend that our customers pay the high cost for triple pane replacement windows when the benefits aren’t really that noticeable. So, we don’t. In fact, we don’t even offer triple pane windows at our replacement window dealership.
Our recommendation is to purchase dual pane windows from a reputable manufacturer that has invested in energy-saving elements in their windows—beyond just adding a third pane of glass. A manufacturer like Anlin Windows & Doors offers windows with high-performance glass, a warm-edge spacer in between the panes, advanced weather stripping, and vinyl frames infused with titanium dioxide. Anlin windows will keep your home cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter, so you use less energy keeping your home comfortable year round.
Anlin’s dual pane windows will cost you less than just about any triple pane windows on the market and will still give you amazing results when it comes to insulating your home! We promise you won’t be disappointed!
