Are You a Licensed San Diego Window Contractor?

BM Windows is a fully licensed, bonded, and insured contractor with California’s Contractors State License Board (CSLB). This means we have met all the requirements of the State of California for a business of our type.

First of all, BM Windows has the appropriate license for a replacement window company. We hold what’s called a C17-Glazing Contractor license, which is the license for any company that installs windows and glass patio doors.

A glazing contractor selects, cuts, assembles, and/or installs all makes and kinds of glass, glass work, mirrored glass, and glass substitute materials for glazing; executes the fabrication and glazing of frames, panels, sashes and doors; and/or installs these items in any structure. Our license is listed as “current and active,” which you can confirm on the CSLB’s website by typing in our license number (891637) on their license check page.

On our page on the CSLB’s website, you’ll see that we have been licensed in California since 2007. You’ll also see that we are bonded and insured. “Bonded” means that we have purchased a bond that serves as a financial guarantee that the terms of your contract will be fulfilled. If they are not, a customer can file a claim for financial compensation for any work that was paid for, but not completed, or for defective work that is not corrected.

Finally, you’ll see that BM Windows carries workers’ compensation insurance. This protects not only our employees, but also you as a homeowner. If anyone is injured on your property while your windows are being installed, their care is covered by our workers’ compensation policy. If you hire a replacement window company that does not have workers’ comp insurance, you may be on the hook for the medical bills of anyone that is injured while on your property!

Hiring a licensed window contractor is essential for your protection. There will be people that might advise you that you can save money by hiring an unlicensed window installer. Please don’t do this! The risk is too great, and if anything goes wrong, you have no recourse. The CSLB will not help you, and these unlicensed contractors know it! We’ve heard horror stories of so-called contractors running off with homeowners’ deposits or doing shoddy work and then disappearing. Hiring a licensed contractor doesn’t necessarily guarantee that their work will be perfect, but it does give you a way to go after the contractor if things go south.

Please be warned—some window installers will tell you they are licensed. They may even provide you with a license number. Make sure you check it on the CSLB’s website to make sure it’s an active number and that it’s actually theirs. If the name associated with the number doesn’t match the name the window installer gave you, ask some additional questions about why their name and number don’t match. Doing a little bit of homework can save you a ton of headaches and money.
