One question we get asked a lot at BM Windows is if we sell “custom-sized windows.” Since we get this question with some regularity, we thought we’d take some time here to talk about window sizes and what you can expect when you want to order replacement windows for your home.
If you have a tract home, you may assume that the windows in your home are standard sizes. This isn’t necessarily the case. Depending on your home’s builder, the year it was built, and its style, your home’s windows could be just about any size. Therefore, when ordering replacement windows for your San Diego home, you will have to order custom-sized windows.
Buying custom-sized windows may sound like something only rich people do (you hear the word “custom” and automatically think “expensive”). But in fact, custom-sized windows are pretty much the norm in the replacement window industry. Any replacement window company in San Diego that would decide to only sell “standard-sized” windows wouldn’t be in business very long, because there really is no such thing as standard sizes when it comes to windows. Sure, there are some sizes that are more common than others. For example, you will find 24 x 36” double hung windows in a lot of bedrooms in San Diego homes, but they are by no means the only window size you’ll find in bedrooms.

If you’ve ever purchased blinds for your home, you know this to be true. Home improvement stores will sell blinds in common widths—like 24”, 36”, and 48”, etc.—but even then, you may have to have them trimmed to the exact width you need. Those same blinds typically come in lengths longer than you actually need, and then it’s up to you to adjust them to the length of your window.
Custom-Sized Windows with Customized Features and a Perfect Fit
Unlike blinds, however, replacement windows aren’t “adjustable,” and therefore, each window needs to be custom built to fit into the space in which it will be placed. The benefit of this is that you get to pick and choose what features your windows will have. Need extra sound suppression, greater protection from UV rays, or upgraded hardware? No problem! You can get the exact windows you want because they are made especially for you and your specific home.
When someone from our team comes out to your home to give you an estimate on replacement windows, they will take careful measurements. This will ensure that your new windows are a perfect fit. There will be no damage to the surrounding walls—inside or out—when they are installed, and they will be exceptionally energy efficient.
If you’re ready to get started with replacement windows, contact our San Diego office, and we’ll schedule someone to come out to your home as soon as possible. At your appointment, our friendly and knowledgeable representative will answer all your questions and provide you with an all-inclusive quote, as well as the expected timeline for installation.
