Look at the house as a whole and determine which look you are trying to achieve. Is your house contemporary or more traditional? Then we choose a type of installation. Retrofit windows will be cheaper but you will lose some of the glass space of the window. New construction style is more costly, but it will give you maximum glass view. The color of the window is also important. The standard colors are white or beige, but for an exterior you can usually choose from a variety of colors. Another option you need to consider is grids. You can have different styles from Colonial to Victorian or Perimeter. In more contemporary homes maximum glass space and open view is usually the way to go. In more traditional homes we can dress up the windows a little bit more. We can add a French Hinged Door, Sliding Patio Door, Bay Windows or Bow Windows. In the coastal areas like Carlsbad, Oceanside, Encinitas, Del Mar, and La Jolla you can drive around and get inspired by checking some of the houses that have already replaced windows or doors. Inland areas like Vista, San Marcos, Escondido, Rancho Bernardo, Poway, Mira Mesa, Carmel Valley, Tierrasanta, and Rancho Penasquitos have great examples of styles you might like as well. You can drive around and take some pictures of the houses with windows and doors that appeal to you.
You’ll be able to spot the retrofit windows and retrofit doors by seeing a white or beige frame or by seeing dual pane glass on the window. These are usually signs that windows have been replaced. You can also get ideas in the magazines or brochures of Anlin Windows Systems. Lastly, you can take a look at our window and door galleries for more inspiration.
