If you’re just beginning your online search for a replacement window company in San Diego, you may not have realized yet that there are a couple of different types of companies that sell replacement window products. First of all, there are replacement window dealers (BM Windows would fall into this category) and then there are window manufacturers that sell directly to consumers.
Replacement window dealers only sell windows and doors from outside manufacturers. In our case, we sell windows and doors from Anlin Window Systems, Monte Verde, and Bayview. We don’t manufacture the products we sell—rather, we are authorized by the manufacturers to sell their windows to our customers.
Most of the companies from which you can purchase replacement windows in San Diego would be considered window dealers (including the home improvement stores that sell them). However, there are a few companies in the area that both manufacture and sell windows directly to homeowners.
On the surface, it may seem like a good thing to buy from a company that manufacturers, sells, and installs their own brand of replacement windows. After all, aren’t you cutting out the “middleman”? And isn’t it a good thing to “buy local”? It may be, but there is also a very important concern you might not have considered.
What if the company that both manufactures and sells the replacement windows you purchased for your home goes out of business?

Unfortunately, this isn’t a hypothetical situation. Not long ago, a San Diego replacement window manufacturer that sold their windows directly to many local homeowners closed its doors. Now when their previous customers have a problem with their windows, they have no place to turn. The lifetime warranty that was included with the windows they purchased from this company is worthless, and what is worse, they can’t even get the right replacement parts for their windows. Homeowners with faulty windows made by this company are often forced to completely replace them at their own expense.
But couldn’t the same thing happen if you purchase from a San Diego replacement window dealer?
In order for this same situation to happen, it would mean that both the window manufacturer and the company from which you purchased your windows (your replacement window dealer) would have to go out of business, which is much more unlikely.
At BM Windows, we only purchase replacement windows from established window manufacturers with solid reputations and strong business plans. But even if one of them did go out of business or declare bankruptcy, you could still call us at BM Windows to repair or replace your windows, should anything ever go wrong. Conversely, if your San Diego replacement window dealer ever went out of business, you could call the manufacturer that made your windows, and they can take care of any claims that are still under warranty.
Buying windows from a replacement window dealer is a much safer purchase, especially if you plan on staying in your home for any length of time.
When you invest in new windows for your home, you want that investment to be protected, and the best way to do that is to purchase windows from a well-respected replacement window dealer that sells windows from reputable manufacturers offering a lifetime warranty.
