Recently, we heard about a Netflix original series called White Gold. We were intrigued because the show is about a replacement window company, and we were curious to see how the replacement window industry would be portrayed. Unfortunately, the show doesn’t paint the industry in a very positive light.
The first episode is titled “Salesmen Are Like Vampires.” As the title implies, the replacement window salesmen in this show will stop at nothing to get what they want—a sale. They lie, swindle, and prey on the elderly. They take advantage of their friends and denigrate their competition. Basically, the sales staff on the show is not opposed to using any sales tactic, no matter how dishonest, if it will result in selling replacement windows.

We realize that the show is a work of fiction. We would hope there aren’t actually replacement window companies out there that are as unscrupulous as the company portrayed in White Gold. However, we do know that there are salespeople in the home improvement industry who give all salespeople a bad name. They might not go so far as to lie to their customers or cheat them out of their money, but they may use certain sales tactics that make people feel uncomfortable, or pressure them into buying products with expensive features that they don’t actually need.
At BM Windows, it has always been our policy to not use high-pressure sales tactics. We also have never engaged in door-to-door sales. We are confident in the quality of our products and our competitive pricing, so we don’t see any reason to use sales methods that make people uncomfortable. What is more, we care about our customers. We want to treat them right and give them a great experience with our company. If you read the testimonials and reviews from past BM Windows customers, you will see that many of them talk about how smooth and easy the process of buying replacement windows was. How often do you hear that from someone who has worked with a home improvement company?
Of course, like any sales team, the BM Windows team wants to earn your business, but we won’t compromise our principles to do so. Rather than focusing on “sales,” we prefer to educate people about replacement windows and doors. We don’t try to sell things to people who aren’t even looking for our products (like a door-to-door salesman would do), but when someone is looking for high-quality, energy-efficient windows, we want to be a great resource for them.
