In a previous post, “Patio Door Basics and Why We Recommend Anlin for San Diego Homeowners”, we shared some of the basics about patio doors and some details about Anlin. One popular product line is Anlin’s Malibu Vinyl Sliding Patio Doors. This is their line of sliding patio doors, but they also offer swinging French patio doors. We also previously discussed styles, colors and hardware options for patio doors.
In this post we’re talking about patio door installation. Like with most replacement windows and doors, patio doors are available with the option for new construction or retrofit installation. In the case of new construction installation, the entire frame is removed and the new patio door is installed with a new moisture barrier (flashing paper).
When retrofit installation is chosen, the bottom track of the original frame is removed, because the new door must sit on the flat surface. But the sides and top of the original frame remain in place and the new door is installed over the existing frame.
At BM Windows we finish all door installations with a custom made jamb and casing, which is ready to paint.
