Once you’ve made the decision to replace the windows or doors in your San Diego home you’ll have some options to consider. We sell and install various replacement window brands as well as several replacement window products. You’ll have choices regarding color as well. We will present each of the options and help you make the best decision based on your house style, any HOA requirements you may have, and your budget considerations.
One of the first and most important decisions when selecting replacement windows is the installation type to use; new construction windows or retrofit windows.
New Construction Windows
New construction windows are most often used when a new structure is being built, or when an addition is being made to the home. However we can install new construction windows when replacing existing windows. This style of installation requires that we open the exterior of the house (most often stucco or siding on San Diego houses) about 10″ around the window or door all the way to the studs (framing). We then install the new window or door and attach it to the studs and new flashing is placed under the frame.

Retrofit Windows
Retrofit windows and doors are installed without collapsing the existing frame as they are retrofitted into the existing opening. As a result, the window frame is larger and the visible window area is smaller. But the installation is simpler, faster and less expensive. The actual cost of retrofit windows and doors is about the same as new construction windows and doors. The differences in total project price are generally as a result of labor associated with installation.
Benefits of Retrofit Windows and Doors
- No substantial construction required
