Summer is here, and although San Diego doesn’t have the brutally hot summers that many other areas of the country do, it still gets plenty warm here—warm enough to turn on the air conditioner every once in a while (or wish you could if you don’t have an air conditioning unit in your home).
As we all know, electricity costs in San Diego continue to go up, with no signs of stopping. This makes many homeowners look for ways to cut their electricity bills. One way to do this is by making their homes as energy efficient as possible. While replacing your home’s windows certainly isn’t the only way to make your home more energy efficient, it is one of the best ways! The homeowners we work with consistently tell us that they see a noticeable difference in their monthly energy bills after their new windows are installed!
The replacement windows we sell in San Diego all come standard with many great energy-efficient features built in. You can also choose to upgrade your windows to make them even more energy efficient. In this blog post, we’ll go over some of the features that make Anlin windows a great choice for homeowners who want their homes to stay comfortable all summer long, without seeing their energy bills skyrocket!
ENERGY STAR Certified
First and foremost, it should be noted that all Anlin windows with Argon gas in between the two panes of glass meet the qualifications for ENERGY STAR certification. Argon gas is an optional upgrade with the standard Infinit-e Plus glass package and is included with the QuadraTherm glass package. (More on these later.)
The federal government’s ENERGY STAR program sets guidelines that windows must meet in order to get the coveted certification. To get an ENERGY STAR certification, windows are independently evaluated by the National Fenestration Rating Council (NFRC). In the South-Central region, where San Diego is located, to receive ENERGY STAR certification, windows much have a U-Factor less than or equal to .28 and a Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC) of .23 or lower.
Purchasing windows with an ENERGY STAR certification not only ensures that your windows do a great job of insulating your home, but also allows you to qualify for any ENERGY STAR rebates or tax credits that are currently being offered.

Two Panes of Glass
If you currently have windows with a single pane of glass in your home, upgrading to replacement windows with two panes of glass (also known as “dual pane windows” or “double glaze”) will be an instant improvement! All Anlin windows come standard with two panes of glass, as do just about all replacement windows on the market. You might see some other brands that sell triple pane windows that may provide you with slightly better insulating properties, but in our experience, the difference is negligible. Most window experts will tell you that the high cost you will pay for triple pane windows is not justified by their performance. We advise all our customers to stick with dual pane windows—especially if cost is a factor in their decision.
Anlin’s Glass Package Options
As we mentioned earlier, you have multiple options when it comes to glass packages with your Anlin windows.
The standard package is called their Infinit-e package. It includes three layers of energy-efficient Low-e coating, which reflects solar heat and helps to prevent it from entering your home. Between the two panes of glass is a warm edge spacer made from a low conductivity material. It is designed to seal the space in between the two panes and help keep heat from escaping your home in the colder months. The patented Platinum Elite spacer used in Anlin windows is one of the most advanced in the window industry!
The Infinit-e package is great on its own, but you can upgrade it by adding Argon gas in between the two panes of glass and/or add a special coating called QuadraTherm that will help your home retain more heat when it is cold outside.
The upgraded SunMatrix glass package from Anlin is a great option for homes in areas that experience hotter temperatures. It includes four layers of Low-e coating, as well as the same warm edge spacer found in the Infinit-e package. This glass package can also be upgraded with Argon gas and QuadraTherm.
For the most protection from outside heat, you could upgrade to the SunShield package. It provides three layers of Low-e coating, plus a blue/gray tint that further reflects the sun and keeps your home cooler.
Mix and Match Options
Not every window in your home may need the maximum protection from solar heat. At BM Windows, we give you the option to upgrade only the windows that actually need it.
Maybe you have a room or two in your home that tend to get especially hot in the afternoon. You could choose to only upgrade the windows in those rooms with the SunMatrix or SunShield package, rather than every window in your home. This will save you a good amount of money, while still keeping your home comfortable during the summer months!
Overall, Anlin windows provide San Diego homeowners with great protection from the summer heat! You really can’t go wrong with Anlin windows—even if you choose the standard package with no upgrades. We highly recommend Anlin windows to our customers and have been doing so for many years. Every Anlin window comes standard with a lifetime warranty from the manufacturer, in addition to the BM Windows lifetime installation warranty.
