Can I Get Replacement Window Prices Over the Phone?

Let’s talk replacement window prices. We get a lot of calls and emails from potential customers and one of the first things they ask us is, “How much do replacement windows cost?” Usually, they are just asking for a general estimate. They’ll say something like, “I have 15 average-sized windows and a sliding patio door I need replaced. Can you give me a pricing estimate?”

Unfortunately, it’s difficult to answer this question over the phone. Sure, we could give a pricing range, but it will be a very large range that won’t be particularly helpful. There are several reasons for this:

Every Replacement Window and Door We Sell Is Custom

Not every homeowner is aware of this, but there are no “standard” sizes of replacement windows. Therefore, there are no standard prices. When we come to your home to give you an estimate, we will take measurements of every window in your home in order to calculate the price. The price will also be determined by the style of replacement window you choose. A small picture window (one that does not open or close) will be much less expensive than a large triple slider. A picture window won’t have any moving parts, nor will it have a screen, which keeps the cost down.

There Are Different Levels of Replacement Windows

At our San Diego replacement window company, we sell several different brands and lines of windows. Some are considered more high-end brands, while others are more budget friendly. At your appointment, we can explain the differences between the various brands we sell and then give you prices on more than one brand so you can compare. You may go in thinking you want a budget-friendly brand, but then reconsider after learning about the upgrades that the higher-end brands include and seeing the prices on both.

Every Homeowners Wants Different Features

All the brands we sell come with some optional upgrades. You can include decorative upgrades like different frame colors or window grids, or you can add performance upgrades, such as increased sound suppression or upgraded energy efficiency features. You even have the option of including upgrades in some of the windows in your home, but not others. For example, you may only want to upgrade the energy efficiency in the windows that are exposed to afternoon sun, or you might only want decorative grids on the windows in the front of your house.

We’ll find out what’s important to you and what’s not, and we’ll provide you with a quote that is customized to your needs. We won’t ever try to upsell you on features that aren’t necessary.

How Are Other Companies Able to Provide Simple Replacement Window Prices?

You’ve probably seen ads from other San Diego replacement window companies that offer a fixed price for any size or style of window. As a homeowner, this type of pricing strategy might seem attractive to you. You can easily calculate what new windows will cost without having to meet with a salesperson.

What these ads won’t tell you (or what they’ll only include in the fine print), is that there are exceptions to their one-size-one-price approach. Their price may not include certain features that you’ll likely want in your new windows, or the price may not be valid on windows over a certain size. If the company is really sneaky, they may not include the cost of installation in the price, which you’ll obviously need. In other words, the “simple” pricing some companies advertise is almost never simple.

Once you actually meet with one of these companies to place an order, the price will almost certainly be more than you anticipated.
