If you’ve done any searching for San Diego replacement windows, you’ve probably noticed that most companies focus on windows for single family homes. But these aren’t the only type of properties that can benefit from new residential windows. Here at BM Windows, we are also able to install windows in several other types of San Diego properties.

Replacement Windows and Doors for Boutique Hotels in San Diego
Given that it’s a tourist destination, San Diego has a good amount of hotels, including many small, boutique hotels. For small hotels that use residential windows, BM Windows can provide new, energy-efficient windows and patio doors at a great rate. We will work with your schedule to help reduce the disruption to your business and your guests as much as possible.
Why do we only provide windows for small boutique hotels? Because larger hotels often use a different grade of windows that we don’t sell or install. If you aren’t sure whether your hotel needs residential or commercial windows, contact us.
Residential Windows Vs. Commercial Windows
To the casual observer, it may seem like there is no difference between residential windows and the commercial windows used in storefronts and office buildings, but they actually are quite different. They differ in the materials used, as well as in the installation methods that are employed.
Commercial grade windows are built to support a much larger load than residential windows, and since they are typically larger, they need to be more wind resistant. This requires their frames to be heavier duty and the glass to be thicker. As you can imagine, this makes commercial windows very heavy, and therefore requires special equipment to install them, such as lifts, or even cranes.
Commercial windows also need a different type of glazing system to help the keep the inside of the building cool. Since commercial buildings can be densely populated during working hours and can also be filled with heat-producing equipment, they require windows that can help them be more energy efficient. Otherwise, a building’s cooling bill could be astronomical! All of these factors combined make commercial windows substantially more expensive than residential windows.
Residential windows, on the other hand, use frame materials that are lighter, such as vinyl or fiberglass. They also tend to have more design features, like grids or various frame styles and colors, and come in a variety of geometric shapes.
Typically, manufacturing companies specialize in either residential windows or commercial windows. Similarly, companies that sell and install windows generally focus on one type of window or the other, due to the different equipment needs and installation methods.
