As a San Diego replacement window company, we often get asked which windows are the best for San Diego homes. There are so many brands on the market, and it can be difficult to read up on all of them to determine which ones you should choose. So, in this post, we decided to talk about five replacement window brands that many San Diego homeowners consider.
Milgard
Milgard is a brand we get asked about a lot at our San Diego replacement window company. It is a very popular brand of windows and doors, and many homeowners assume that because it is a “household name,” their products must be of good quality. Their windows typically come at a lower price point, which is attractive to many San Diego homeowners, but they should be considered more of an “entry level” offering. If you have an older home with original, single pane windows, Milgard windows will be an upgrade as far as energy efficiency is concerned.
As people who have been in the replacement window industry for a long time, we’re very familiar with Milgard windows. We sometimes find ourselves working with homeowners who want to replace their Milgard windows for an upgraded option.
The advantages of Milgard is that they are widely available from many replacement window dealers in San Diego (although here at BM Windows we have chosen not to sell them), and they offer a huge amount of products, including windows with frame materials other than vinyl (wood, aluminum, and fiberglass).
Anlin
Anlin was a relatively unknown brand of replacement windows ten years ago, but it has rapidly gained in popularity since then. They are a regional company—only offering windows and doors in the western United States. As such, they manufacture windows made specifically for the needs of homeowners in western climates like San Diego and are able to sell their high-quality, energy-efficient windows and doors at affordable prices.
In our opinion, Anlin offers homeowners the best value for replacement windows in San Diego. Meaning, they offer a great combination of affordability and quality. The features that other replacement window companies offer as “upgrades” come standard in Anlin windows. They also offer an industry-leading Double Lifetime Warranty, which allows you to pass on the warranty to the next owners of your home.
One other thing that helps Anlin stand out in the replacement window industry is that they are very selective as far as which companies are allowed to sell their products. All of their dealers go through their training and certification process, which means you are more likely to get a dealer who is knowledgeable and experienced in the replacement window industry.

Monte Verde and Bay View
Monte Verde and Bay View replacement windows are both manufactured by Anlin Industries (see above), but at a more affordable price point than Anlin Windows. They both still have many great features, however, and homeowners shouldn’t shy away from them just because they are the company’s more “budget-friendly” options. Monte Verde and Bay View offer vinyl windows and doors that are energy efficient and durable. Like Anlin windows, they’re made specifically for climates like San Diego.
At BM Windows, we’ve installed Monte Verde and Bay View windows and doors all over San Diego county for many satisfied homeowners, as well as for owners of apartment complexes, and even in some small San Diego hotels. They are backed by a great warranty from a company that truly stands behind their products. And this isn’t the case with all replacement window warranties—some are not worth much more than the paper they’re printed on because the manufacturers will often find some loophole to avoid honoring their warranties.
Simonton
Simonton is another popular replacement window brand in San Diego. They offer three different product lines—Daylight Max, Madeira, and Verona—with varying levels of features. All of their products come with vinyl frames, which helps keep their cost down and also gives them good energy efficiency. While Simonton windows aren’t considered by most to be “top tier” replacement windows, they generally receive good marks from organizations like Consumer Reports. They are solid windows, and with the right upgrades, most homeowners are satisfied with them.
Like Anlin, Simonton offers a Double Lifetime Warranty on their replacement windows that can be passed on to a subsequent homeowner.
Andersen
Andersen windows have been around for a long time and are popular with many homeowners in San Diego. Renewal by Andersen is the company’s line of replacement windows (other Andersen windows, like the ones sold in the big box stores, are for new construction products).
Many people like Renewal by Andersen windows for the look of their frames. Their frames resemble traditional wood frames, but are actually made of a material called Fibrex, a PVC-wood fiber composite. They have a nice look to them, but unfortunately, the frames currently only come with a 10-year warranty, although the window sash and panel glass are warranted for 20 years. In addition, Renewal by Andersen windows tend to be at the upper end of pricing as far as replacement windows in San Diego are concerned.
Our Recommendation for Replacement Windows in San Diego
At BM Windows, we’ve looked at a lot of replacement windows over the years to determine which products we want to offer our customers. We only want to sell windows and doors that we can confidently recommend to them—ones that we would be happy to install in our own homes. In addition, we want our windows to be priced well and offer a great warranty. For those reasons, we recommend and sell Anlin, Monte Verde, and Bay View windows and doors.
