This blog post will be a little bit different than most of the articles we post on our website. We know that some of our customers like to get into the more technical aspects of replacement windows, so if you’re one of them, this blog post is for you!
We wanted to delve into one of the factors that makes Anlin Windows, our preferred brand of replacement windows for San Diego homes, some of the best windows on the market—their vinyl. They call their unique vinyl formula MasterBlend.
Before we get into the technical details, it’s important to note that Anlin Windows is a regional company. They only sell their replacement window products in the western United States. As such, they have formulated the vinyl used in their replacement windows specifically for the climates found in that region. Anlin’s windows and doors wouldn’t be a good fit for homes in areas that experience extremely cold conditions, but they are great for San Diego homes, since they are built to withstand hotter and sunnier climates.
It’s important for window manufacturers to get their vinyl formula right. The wrong mixture, or one that uses cheaper ingredients to try to cut corners, can lead to window frames that become brittle or discolored after prolonged exposure to UV rays and other elements.
Here are some of the elements that set Anlin’s vinyl apart from the vinyl used in other replacement windows on the market:

Tin
In Anlin’s MasterBlend vinyl, tin is added to act as a stabilizer. Without it, hydrogen chloride is released when the vinyl is heated for the extrusion process and makes the vinyl more susceptible to decomposition. Adding tin to the vinyl prevents hydrogen chloride from being released, which gives the windows enhanced resistance to the harmful effects of sunlight and heat, and prevents yellowing.
Calcium Carbonate
Ground calcium carbonate is added to Anlin’s MasterBlend vinyl to give it additional mass, making it more durable and also increasing its insulating properties.
Titanium Dioxide
The addition of titanium dioxide to vinyl is something you’ll only find in high-quality vinyl windows. Titanium dioxide helps brighten the vinyl to give it a crisp white color and also helps prevent discoloration from extended exposure to the sun. In lower quality windows, a less expensive method of tinting will be used to help whiten the vinyl, but this usually results in a slight bluish tint. Vinyl with titanium dioxide will give your windows a true, bright white. Titanium dioxide also aids with heat resistance, making the vinyl windows more energy efficient.
Multiple Chambers
If you look at a cross section of the vinyl frames of Anlin windows, you will notice multiple small hollow chambers. Higher quality vinyl windows, like Anlin windows, will have many small chambers, as opposed to the few large chambers you’ll find in lower quality windows. More inner chambers means the flow of heat and cold through the frame is reduced, which increases a window’s energy efficiency.
Better Products, Better Warranty
As we mentioned before, Anlin’s MasterBlend vinyl is made specifically for climates like those found in the San Diego area and is only sold in those regions. Because of this, Anlin is confident in the durability of their products, specifically that their vinyl will hold up under extended exposure to UV rays without cracking or fading. When you offer a well-made, durable product like Anlin does, you are also able to provide your customers with an industry-leading warranty. Anlin’s double lifetime warranty means your windows are covered for as long as you own your home, and that you can pass on the warranty to the next homeowner!
